The impact
SuccessionStart Fund I ($50M) is built to measure what matters: businesses saved, operators placed, jobs retained, communities preserved.
The Toronto incubator
The SuccessionStart incubator adapts search fund methodology for a newcomer context. Candidates are sourced through established partnerships with organisations working in newcomer employment and entrepreneurship. Training covers business evaluation, acquisition structuring, owner-operator transition, and community integration.
Graduates are matched to retiring business owners who, in many cases, become mentors and minority shareholders. The retiring owner's legacy is preserved. The community keeps the business. The new operator builds equity from day one.
The incubator operates within a direct pipeline to 90,000+ businesses across 85+ Business Improvement Area zones in Ontario.
businesses across 85+ Business Improvement Area zones in Ontario. Direct pipeline access through an established provincial partnership.
The target
SuccessionStart Fund I is built around specific, measurable outcomes. This is what we are working toward in the first three years.
Business transitions facilitated
Newcomer owner-operators placed and trained
Jobs retained in communities across Canada
Total investment catalysed through the fund and co-investors
For impact-aligned investors
SuccessionStart Fund I offers impact LPs something rare: a concrete thesis with a measurable pipeline. The fund does not ask investors to accept concessionary returns for impact. The acquisition model targets cash-flowing Main Street businesses with a proven track record. The impact is structural, built into the deal flow, not layered on top.
Fund I targets 100 transactions in its first three years, producing 1,400 jobs retained and $125M+ in total investment catalysed.
A retiring owner exits with full value and legacy intact
A skilled newcomer achieves ownership and economic inclusion
A community retains a business, its jobs, and its anchor
